Controlling trajectory and distance is key to improving iron shots. Ball position must be slightly forward of center and that you are comfortable at setup, standing tall and staying balanced, from there a good shoulder turn to get to the top and now you are ready to “squeeze” the ball out between club and turf. I like to start with one extra club and feel that starting down my weight will shift to my front leg and that I am leaning into the ball ever so slightly at impact. I continue to rotate my hips and torso through to the target with my arms extended out in front of me and shaking hands with the target, leading to more accuracy, better control of the flight- not too high not too low- and who knows perhaps even a little “action” when the ball pitches the green. |
